Russ Joyner (www.twowheeltechnics.com) gets stuck in to the 650. Fortunately, he knows how these bikes go back together better than anyone else in the UK!
Believe it or not, this bike will be out in the BMCRC Minitwins race later this month at Mallory.

Inzane Laverda Are First Green Motorcycle Race Team
Thursday, July 19, 2007, 23:26 -
News
Inzane Laverda, a motorcycle racing team based in Peterborough, will be first in the field to take advantage of a change in UK bike racing rules permitting the use of biofuels. The team which is jointly owned by Ian Calvert and Geoff Lancaster have adapted a ten year old Italian Laverda Formula 650 machine to race in the UK Mini Twins category, a series usually dominated by modern Japanese Suzuki machines.
However it is not the nationality of the bike which will promote most interest in the new team but the fact that it will take to the track for its first race at Snetterton on July 7th fueled by E85, a blend of bioethanol and petrol.

The team rolled up for a Silverstone full GP circuit track day for a proper shakedown test in the dry (it was WET at Rockingham!)with Russ Joyner. Russ will ride in our first race in the Dynapro Series in July at Snetterton and will therefore gain the distinction of being the first UK rider to compete powered by biofuel.
For this test we ran petrol with the purpose of familiaring Russ and ourselves with the bike and getting a workable set-up with the suspension and gearing.
After four laps before lunch we stiffened up the suspension, changed the gearing and went out for an extended 30 minute test. Lap times came down steadily and consistently (as you would expect from a pro like Russ) and having shaved around 5 seconds of the best time in the morning Russ came in declaring himself satisfied. In fact from his grin I think he quite enjoyed his nostalgic ride on the old 650 Formula.
The bike admittedly looked a bit rough in bare gel coat against all the race replica R1's and Blades butout on the track, particularly in corner speed we were not disgraced even though pushing out less than half the power of the 1 litre machines.
Not to worry, the panels are now away for their application of metallic black before the race graphics go on ready for that debut at Snetterton and the Festival of 1000 Bikes at Mallory the following week.
Before all that though we have to go on the dyno on Friday and test Uncle Ian's (our Tech Director) prowess on his laptop at remapping the fuel system for bioethanol e85.
